Columbus is the largest city in Ohio and is also the state capitol. It is located in the center of the state and combines other municipalities to become what is known as the Columbus metropolitan area. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, both in population and geography. The city made annexation a condition for providing water and sewer services.
Columbus has a strong and diverse economy, tenth in the nation and first in Ohio. The government provides most of the employment with the schools also providing many jobs. Five insurance companies, large banks, technical companies, retail stores, and fast foods among others make their home in the city. Ohio State University has the largest college campus in the United States. There are nine other colleges and universities in the area. The Columbus metropolitan library is the top rated system among large city libraries. The city is home to many performing art institutions including the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
Columbus is a sports minded city. It has several professional teams. It also has the Ohio State Buckeye college team, the annual Arnold Classic fitness expo and the annual all American quarter horse congress.
The city has two interstates, I-70 and I-71, and U.S. routes 40, 33, and 23. Four airports including Port Columbus International, Rickenbacher International, Don Scott and Bolton Field serve the city of Columbus.
